What little love I have for that company has now gone away…completely. Some of you might know that my step-mom, Cindy, passed away last week from cancer. The memorial for her is Monday evening. However, upon notifying the company of her wanting funeral leave, D.T. informed her that my step-mom is not covered by the company bereavement policy. So now, she is, for all intents and purposes, being penalized for attending the memorial Monday evening.

I’m still completely aghast of the callousness of Ameristar, but then again, I shouldn’t even be remotely surprised. For those of us who are out of there, all the better. However, for those of you who are still there, you have my complete sympathy.

UPDATE: Well, they gave Lisa the night off…but it isn’t gonna be covered under the bereavement policy all the same. Fortunately, it’s not gonna cost any money as she has to work Christmas Eve. I still think it’s a bunch of crap, as it still is an inlaw. If it SHE had a step parent, it WOULD be covered.

This is a little old, but I just read it (on worldnetdaily.com). Happened a couple years ago. I can believe it. I wonder if this guy did get some kind of settlement from Best Buy after he was arrested for trying to pay them with $2 bills.

A man trying to pay a fee using $2 bills was arrested, handcuffed and taken to jail after clerks at a Best Buy store questioned the currency’s legitimacy and called police.

According to an account in the Baltimore Sun, 57-year-old Mike Bolesta was shocked to find himself taken to the Baltimore County lockup in Cockeysville, Md., where he was handcuffed to a pole for three hours while the U.S. Secret Service was called to weigh in on the case.

Bolesta told the Sun: “I am 6 feet 5 inches tall, and I felt like 8 inches high. To be handcuffed, to have all those people looking on, to be cuffed to a pole – and to know you haven’t done anything wrong. And me, with a brother, Joe, who spent 33 years on the city police force. It was humiliating.”

After Best Buy personnel reportedly told Bolesta he would not be charged for the installation of a stereo in his son’s car, he received a call from the store saying it was in fact charging him the fee. As a means of protest, Bolesta decided to pay the $114 bill using 57 crisp, new $2 bills.

As the owner of Capital City Student Tours, the Baltimore resident has a hearty supply of the uncommon currency. He often gives the bills to students who take his tours for meal money.

“The kids don’t see that many $2 bills, so they think this is the greatest thing in the world,” Bolesta says. “They don’t want to spend ‘em. They want to save ‘em. I’ve been doing this since I started the company. So I’m thinking, ‘I’ll stage my little comic protest. I’ll pay the $114 with $2 bills.’”

Bolesta explained what happened when he presented the bills to the cashier at Best Buy Feb. 20.

“She looked at the $2 bills and told me, ‘I don’t have to take these if I don’t want to.’ I said, ‘If you don’t, I’m leaving. I’ve tried to pay my bill twice. You don’t want these bills, you can sue me.’ So she took the money – like she’s doing me a favor.”

Bolesta says the cashier marked each bill with a pen. Other store employees began to gather, a few of them asking, “Are these real?”

“Of course they are,” Bolesta said. “They’re legal tender.”

According to the Sun report, the police arrest report noted one employee noticed some smearing of ink on the bills. That’s when the cops were called. One officer reportedly noticed the bills ran in sequential order.

Said Bolesta: “I told them, ‘I’m a tour operator. I’ve got thousands of these bills. I get them from my bank. You got a problem, call the bank.’ I’m sitting there in a chair. The store’s full of people watching this. All of a sudden, he’s standing me up and handcuffing me behind my back, telling me, ‘We have to do this until we get it straightened out.’

“Meanwhile, everybody’s looking at me. I’ve lived here 18 years. I’m hoping my kids don’t walk in and see this. And I’m saying, ‘I can’t believe you’re doing this. I’m paying with legal American money.’”

Bolesta was taken to the lockup, where he sat handcuffed to a pole and in leg irons while the Secret Service was called.

“At this point,” he says, “I’m a mass murderer.”

Secret Service agent Leigh Turner eventually arrived and declared the bills legitimate, adding, according to the police report, “Sometimes ink on money can smear.”

Hard to imagine this happening and then not so hard at the same time..

WTF is it with the large number of stickpeople at work that refuse to do the basic job function of figuring out their prop bets…

Last night, stick just refused to subtract losers from payoffs.. (no, not Joe Cat) would take one guess at a “tough” bet then say “ok pay him”.. or just skip them all together.. and would get disgusted when offered a simple key to figure out the bet themselves with a walkthrough of the bet in question and indignantly still refuse to come up with the final answer.

It’s not just that one.. there a lot of sticks that take one stab at it or mumble and wait till the box or the base tell em. Nobody is going to get better, nobody is going to learn how to do their damn job if somebody else always gives them the answer. They don’t practice prop payoffs to get better or heck, to learn them in the first place!

Did the part about being on stick meaning it’s THEIR responsibility to do and know that stuff get skipped in class? Or is the state of our crap pit so low that not caring how you do your job just becoming the norm?

Nobody does anything about it.. nobody else cares.. the supervisors don’t hold anyone to any kind of standards (I’ve benefitted from that too because let’s face it, dealing procedure all the time sucks) but the line has to be drawn somewhere between letting a real dealer just deal and making somebody that refuses to learn to deal to do their job.

FLIPPIN’ LEARN TO DEAL IF YOU ARE GONNA BE ON THE GAME.or at least be willing.

You can’t make this stuff up… Sylvester Stalones mother’s website selling her rumpology reports.. http://www.jacquelinestallone.com/rumps.html.

She’s got example rear ends… like a Hollywood Gigilo, a Jewish Princess and a Fortune 500 CEO butt among others displayed as if to be some kind of proof. Not sure what the “examples” are supposed to sell me on.

For only $125 dollars and a picture of my rear end, I’ll get a bunch of stuff.. a special condensed, no frills predictions and descriptions of the signs and markings on my butt. There’s a few other things I’ll recieve but the best might be number five:

An 8.5″ by 11″ color glossy print of my rear end which I may wish to frame as a family keepsake …. or to give to a friend.

Two of the things she says I’d receive (numbers 3 and 4) aren’t even things.. they are just descriptions of what rumpology is. I guess that people that are gonna give her $125 and a picture of their ass aren’t gonna understand that though.

Pretty funny site, you’ve just got to read it for yourself… she continues to profess the legitimacy of the skill or art and the thinking people of the world can get a good laugh out of it. I guess the only people who lose are the schmucks that actually pay her 125 bucks

This regulation isn’t changing in 8 days.. 16 days.. etc..

Pepsi or Coke never made a can with pledge of allegiance or the Empire State building on it, with or without leaving out “Under God” (which by the way, wasn’t even in the original pledge) but was included by an act of congress in 1954; There is no email tracking; Jaleel White didn’t commit suicide, Ashley Flores isn’t missing; Cindy Sheehan’s son wasn’t abandoned by her and raised by her ex-husband; the “Invitation Virus” (olympic torch) is a hoax; Target isn’t (owned by a French company, only support gay-lesbian causes, not contribute to Toys-for-Tots, or not let reservists continue health benefits); no robbers have rendered victims unconscious with ether-laden perfume bottles in mall parking lots or anywhere else; there is no email tracking; Swiffer Wet Jet won’t kill your pet; Andy Rooney never said all those things; Amy Bruce doesn’t have a brain tumor or write that Slow Dance poem, and the American Cancer Society’s not giving money to her because there are still no email “trackers”; and unfortunately since there is not a way to “track” the number of times an email is sent, we aren’t going to get thousands of $$$ from Bill Gates/Microsoft/AOL/Anyone either

But you knew all that didn’t you? =))
