Few changes on the website.  Updated to the newest Wordpress and I did it right this time.  Meaning I didn’t screw up any of the changes I had made customizing the theme, widgets I used.  The new version looks slicker on the dashboard and has some more user friendly aspects.  We are going to start using tags too for posts.  Feel free to give any post you have a tag or make a new one if it seems to fit and you think it will help people that might want to search for that to find your post again.  Not sure I’ll do away with categories all together in favor of only using tags.. but might.  We’ll see how it goes.

I wonder too if Pete is the only other person here besides me that has a Gravatar?  Cool little icon/avatar function used across the internet that you associate with an email address and can have show up on sites that use it (a lot.. I just got around to enabling it again here, it had been a while since I had them on).

Can be almost any picture you want.. a photo of yourself to any picture you want to show up to identify your comments to others on a great many websites.

You can upload it to the Gravatar website by browsing files on your computer and hitting the upload button, crop it right on the gravatar site too.  Any picture you find on the internet wether you save it to your computer and upload it or just tell it to use it from typing (or copy/pasting in) the address of it or make yourself can be used..  give it a shot.  Cool little thing you can do to throw yourself into the realm of the hip people.

Here’s what mine is now. If I want, I can change it at gravatar.com and have it change on every site I have left a comment on (after a short cache flushing time). Until you go sign up at gravatar.com your comments will have that horrible silhouette head thingy I’m using as default.

Is there something graphically new for the dashboard between version 2.5 and 2.6? Or are you saying you just now upgraded to WP 2.5 (or 2.6) and are seeing the new dashboard for the first time? On another note, I tried to implement gravatars some time ago and they never quite functioned right on my blog. I’m glad they do now since they’re kinda fun.

I’m saying I’m lazy and skipped 2.5 and jumped right up to 2.6 and am seeing the many changes just now.

So, I did one. Is there anything I need to enable it?

Yeah, use the email address you used at gravatar.com, here.. same for any other blog/forum that uses them.

How do I change my e-mail address here? Do I just need to make a new user?

    -K

It is khollon@kc.rr.com if you need to change it.

All your old comments still had your “zipit” email address associated with them.. almost 200 of them. Changing your email address in the wordpress users pages didn’t change all your old comments email associated with them. So to get your gravatar to show up on all your old comments, they would have to be changed.

I started changing them by hand having to click on each comment and wait for page to load.. then save.. then go back to list of comments, scroll down.. start on next ETC..
Enough of that.. so I decided I would delve into the MySQL database and see what I could find about something simple to click to replace them all in the admin menus..

Nada.. figured out the script get it done though.. took me less time to learn a little something about databases (ok just one thing) than to do it all through the wordpress menus. I didn’t even bork it like all the warnings said were so easy to do!

Anywhoo.. all your old comments have been changed to have your khollon email attached to them so your gravatar works on all the old stuff. All new comments will be using that khollon address now and will work too. That will be 50g please.

    P.S. I like your gravatar.
