Anyone have any suggestions for a high quality MP3 Encoder?  I understand LAME is good, but DOS command line stuff for ripping all my CD’s should only be waxed nostalgic about..

I’m just looking for a “hey try this it’s the best”.. something I don’t have to compile myself =) even though I do have Visual .net 2003 on the hardrive of the fried computer, I only used it once.. *cough* MacroQuest *cough* just to say I did it.. then I got the rest of the releases from ‘tole.  But I digress..

Anyone MP3 encoder better than MS’ Media Player or Real?  And does VBR playback in all MP3 players?

I don’t know how you plan to apply it, but I use Nero to rip, burn, and convert all my files. Think it allows you to sample sections of the file too, though I have not tried.

This is really going to depend on what you’re trying to accomplish. Are you looking to do batch encoding? Single disc at a time ripping?

LAME’s home site had been down (I got server errors for two days then gave up looking there) during the time I was looking for all the information they have put together about it, so I didn’t know they had resources that covered pretty much all I needed to know..

But, single disc at a time ripping.. for my computer speakers / headphones (they aren’t bad but..) any ole media software that rips to 192 or 256 is good enough.. but I’m going to have a wireless access point to our stereo upstairs and if I decide to go at least 256kbs I think I want a higher quality encoding than Windows Media Player or Realplayer will rip..

Something that uses the LAME.. but it’s source code only to get around copyright issues. Was looking for software that incorporates LAMES open source code as it’s encoding method. Software that has a nice graphical user interface.. instead of LAME’s clunky DOS command line stuff (once compiled).

I’ve found everything I needed to find out from the site.. software that uses LAME encoding that’s working again (or now)

I’ve decided to try out Exact Audio Copy.. It’s one of the free ones. You can use LAME encoder in ITunes too.. I’m gonna give it a try too.. and if I don’t need all the high fallutin techo stuff that EAC seems to have.. I’d use ITunes because it looks so much nicer haha

Personally, I use Audiograbber. It’s pretty fast and I’ve used it to rip all my CD’s into MP3′s.
