Jason, the initial reports I got were from another retiree who passed it on to Dad. Dad was sitting on the recliner in my living room when he got the call. Meanwhile, here's a copy of an email I got today concerning Matt...

Update on Matt Rog following massive stroke ...

I understand Matt Rog did not actually retire but he did serve the department for over twenty years.

Matt is out of ICU but he is paralyzed on his left side. His speech is slurred. His wife Karan is by his side and his three sons are in route to Vegas as I type. He will be starting rehab and speech therapy soon. They don't think his arm will ever be strong enough for a walker so he will probably be confined to a wheel chair. Please keep Matt in your prayers.

As far as what he's doing in Las Vegas he and Karan live there and they are both dealers at the Montecarlo. They've been there about 5 years.

Thanks

This is great news compared to the earlier reports I received. Matt is a very spirited individual and very upbeat, so he'll find a way to battle through this.

Hey Jay, I talked to them yesterday and he is stable. I don't know where you got the information that he isn't going to survive, but it's not true. He did suffer a stroke early Tuesday and he is still hospitalized. He is having muscular spasms in his back and arm similar to tremors, and they are considering sending him to UCLA if they can't get the tremors to settle, but not once did they mention that he might not make it. As a matter of fact Matt is the one that called Tuesday night to let us know that he was stable. So yes keep him in your prayers, but the tough bastard is going to live for a little while longer. Hope this comes as good news to you.
